Driving to Croatia: vignettes and tolls on the way

Croatia itself has no vignette, but almost every road to it crosses a country that does. This is what each one costs for a car in 2026 and where to buy it at the official price.

Prices checked against the official shops on 21 September 2026. Austria's vignette changes price every 1 December and its tunnel tolls on 1 January, as do the vignettes of Hungary and Czechia; Slovenia's change when its government decides.

Slovenia: e-vignette

Every motorway in Slovenia needs an e-vignette tied to your number plate. For a car (class 2A) it costs €16.00 for a week, €32.00 for a month and €117.50 for a year. A motorcycle pays €8.00 for a week. Vans that are higher than 1.30 m above the front axle are class 2B and pay double: €32.00 for a week. There is no vignette for one day, so even the short drive from the Austrian border to Croatia at Macelj costs the weekly price. Driving without one costs a €300 fine.

Buy it at evinjeta.dars.si, the shop of the motorway company DARS. It is valid from the moment you choose.

For the Slovenian motorways: buy the e-vignette online at Vintrica. Partner link: if you buy through it we may earn a commission. You pay the same as buying from them directly.

Hungary: e-matrica

For a car (category D1) the national vignette costs 5,550 HUF for one day, 6,900 HUF for ten days, 11,170 HUF for a month and 61,760 HUF for a year. Motorcycles (D1M) pay 2,770, 3,450 and 5,590 HUF. Buy it at ematrica.nemzetiutdij.hu, the state shop, which charges in forints.

For the Hungarian motorways: buy the e-vignette online at Vintrica. Partner link: if you buy through it we may earn a commission. You pay the same as buying from them directly.

Austria: vignette and tunnel tolls

Austrian motorways need a vignette: €9.60 for one day, €12.80 for ten days, €32.00 for two months and €106.80 for a year, for a car. Motorcycles pay €3.80, €5.10, €12.80 and €42.70. The one-day and ten-day digital vignettes can be valid at once; a two-month or annual one bought online only starts on the 18th day after purchase, so buy those early or at a petrol station.

Some stretches are charged separately, on top of the vignette. On the usual roads to Croatia, a car pays, one way:

Both the vignette and the tunnel tolls are sold at shop.asfinag.at, the shop of the motorway company ASFINAG. A tunnel toll paid in advance lets you use the lane without stopping. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes need a GO-Box instead of a vignette.

Czechia and Slovakia

Czechia: 230 CZK for one day, 300 CZK for ten days, 480 CZK for 30 days and 2,570 CZK for a year, at edalnice.gov.cz. Motorcycles need none. Slovakia sells its vignette at eznamka.sk.

Germany, Italy, Switzerland

German motorways are free for cars. Italy charges by distance at toll stations, as Croatia does. Switzerland has one vignette only, for the year, at 40 francs.

What you need, by route

Then Croatia

From the border you pay by distance. The journeys most visitors make are already added up: from the Slovenian border at Macelj, Bregana or Rupa, or from the Hungarian border at Goričan. Or look up your own journey, and see how paying works in Croatia.
