About the road
The A1 is Croatia's main road to the sea: 476 km from Lučko, on the south-west edge of Zagreb, past Karlovac, Zadar, Šibenik and Split to Ploče. The whole run from Zagreb to Split has been open since June 2005. It crosses the mountains through two long tunnels, Mala Kapela (5.8 km) and Sveti Rok (5.7 km), and comes down to the sea over the Maslenica bridge near Zadar. In a strong bura wind the stretch between Sveti Rok and Posedarje is closed to everything but cars, and in the strongest to all traffic.
The A6 leaves the A1 at Bosiljevo and runs 80 km through the forests of Gorski kotar to Rijeka, over a string of tunnels and viaducts; in winter, snow and wind matter here. Both roads are on one price list, so Zagreb to Rijeka, or Rijeka to Split, is a single toll.
The motorway ends near Ploče. For Dubrovnik about 100 km of ordinary road remain, over the Pelješac bridge, which is free.
The longest journey on this price list, Zagreb to Čarapine, is 482 km and takes about 5 h without stops. A car pays €33.80 for it, which is €7.01 per 100 km.
